How SWO works & its benefits
In the case of Stratford upon Avon to Honeybourne, some six miles between Stratford upon Avon station and Long Marston is all that is needed to connect the South Midlands and the north with the Cotswolds and the Thames Valley, South, South West and Wales. With Worcestershire Parkway opening in 2017 straddling both the Cotswold Line and Birmingham-Cheltenham line South Wales and the South West could be accessed avoiding travelling north and having to change stations at Birmingham. A portion of the line remains in place and connected to the national rail network at Honeybourne. This section currently runs to Long Marston where a train and rolling stock maintenance operator is situated.
The reinstated line would run north from Long Marston along the route of the Greenway. The Greenway would be maintained and protected throughout. Near Evesham Place in Stratford upon Avon the road network has changed as housing development has also taken place. The campaign for SWO supports the ARUP proposals published in 2012 to take the reinstated line underground in this area to overcome the inability to construct a level crossing and the need to mitigate the effects of noise and amenity on the local environment.
